Forecasted precipitation totals are verified against actual station observations, by comparing each available station to the amount from the closest model grid point (no interpolation is done). The equitable threat score is calculated for the entire set of observations at each forecast time and at various thresholds.

All other forecast variables are verified against the appropriate Eta model analyses, interpolated to the real-time MM5 grids. We calculate root-mean-square (RMS) error, bias, and the S1 skill score, all field-averaged to generate a single value for each forecast time.
